WELLINGTON SUMMER MEETINGFirst Day—Thursday, Feb. 3. [by telegraph.] Wellington, Yesterday. Flying Stakes (Handicap) of 50 sovs. Three quarters of a mile. Luna, Bst 61b ... ... ... 1 ... 1 Dan, 6st ... ... ... ... ... 2 Libeller was scratched. Seven started, Luna and Dan being almost equal favorites. Luna got away first, but soon relinquished the head to Governor for a short time. She then came up grandly, and although close pressed by Dan, won by a head, after the best race of the day. Keen’s Cassivelaunus filly was third. Time—lmin, 18secs. Considerable dissatisfaction was excited on the course by the action of the police,' under Superintendent Shearman, who sternly suppressed all games of chance, except the two totalisators on the lawn. The racing club had sold the rights to games for L 22, and about twenty tables of various kinds were on the ground ready

for action, when the police interfered. The stewards interviewed Superintendent Shearman, to induce him to permit what has always heretofore been allowed at race meetings, but he absolutely refused. Second Day—Friday, Feb. 4. Wellington, To-day. The races were continued at the Hutt to-day. The police again stopped all games of chance on the course. The Australian cricketers visited the course during the afternoon. The first event on the. card was the Hutt Park Stakes (Handicap) of 75 sovs. One mile and a quarter. Randwick, Bst 81b ... ... ... 1 Luna, 7st 111 b ... ... ... ... 2 Mischief, fist 111 b 3 Billingsgate. Miss Domett, Dan, Sir George, and The Governor were scratched. This was a grand race and was won by three lengths, one length separating the second and third horses. Badsvvorth bolted before the race and galloped round the course twice, and on coming to the post again Randwick kicked him, and in jured the boy. Badsworth therefore did .not run. Time Imin. Ifisec.
