DOMESTIC INTELLIGENCE.

Robbery.— The Natives of Mattamalta on their return home from the Feast, robbed some of the settlers at Papakura, but through the interference of ihe Government interpreters they have promised to return the property* and the chiefs have assured the Governor that a large compensation shall be made for this breach of the law. Ligar Canal.— We are happy to find that this dangerous nuisance has this week been partially covered over with a good bridge of scantling and plank, by order of his Excellency ; we hope next week to find it completed as far as Goodfellow’s. Court of Requests Bill. — An important alteration has been made in the 29th clause of this Bill as will be seen by a reference fo our reporls of Council on Tuesday last. As the Bill now stands, imprisonment for debt will not release the debtor from future liability. Theatricals. —Our Friends will see by a reference to our advertising columns that Miss Buckingham takes her benefit this Evening, and judging by the bill of fare, we have no doubt a good entertainment is provided. Land Claims. —We are happy to see bv the Government Gazette , that the Land Claims are being fast settled. The Governor stated that the Commissioner for the Northern District would, he expected, terminate his labours in about four months. We have before stated that this business would have been terminated long since, but for the opening fee of £5 demanded for investigation.
