Wiremu Taone [Williamtown] 18 May 1850 From Raihania Takapa, From Paora Tarau Friends, McLean and Taylor, Listen. Let us tell you the names of our lands so you will recognise those of ours, and so that you will not forget our lands. It is not right for some other person to agree about our lands, even though Ngati Apa has taken the payments. You have that right, as Pakeha you have that right to your lands, and likewise we have our rights over our lands. Now if a Pakeha gave over [to someone] another Pakeha's land, then he would go to talk to the judge, for the judge to set right his land. Likewise that is a custom for us. If we do not get it [payment?], we will go to the judge for our lands to be returned, because there are many more of our settlements, that is, lands that Ngati Apa gave over to you, to the Pakeha. Wiremu Tini[Taone?] , Waitara [list of names follows]. These are the names of our lands for you and McLean to see. To Taylor and McLean - keep this to yourselves.
Wiremu Taone 18 Mei 1850 Na Raihania Takapa, Na Paora Tarau E hoa ma, e Te Makarini raua ko Te Teira, Kia rongo mai korua. Kia korerotia atu ki a korua nga ingoa o o maua kainga kia kite korua ki a matou hoki, kei wareware korua ki o maua whenua. Wiremu Tini[?] o Waitara [list of names follows] Ko nga ingoa enei o o maua nei kainga kia kite korua ko Te Makarini. Ki a Te Teira, ki a Makarini, kia tapu tenei ki a korua.
