VARIOUS CELEBRATIONS
SI XT IFT H A \ XIY EKSA RYWAIMATI UNION A Social Evening was held in the “S^voy," VYaimate, on Novemlier 11th, to celebrate the Sixtieth Anniversary ol the formation of the* N Z Alliance. Mrs Duckett, President, read the poiic> adopted by the Alliance at its inauguration, when William Fox was elected President, and which lias not beer altered since. It ran thus 1 "'I hat it i» neither right not politic for the State to aiTord legal protection and sanction to any traffic or system that tends t« increase crime, to waste national resources to corr social habits, and to destroy the hit and health of tin |ieo| ile.” Then was a large attendance over which Mr George Dash presided. The s|makers were Major Ingerson, the Re\. <). Burnet, Mr Geo. Russe!! of Nelson, Mr I. L. Hay man and the Chairman. An excellent musical programme wapresented. Notable among a|iofogies for absence were those of the Rev. R J. Griffith and Mr G. L. Stewart. Votes of thanks to the W.C.T.U., tin jK-rformers and the Chairman, to whom musical honours were accorded, preceded an excellent supper.
