RED RAG TO A BULL.
I \t a conference of returned soldiers ,eld in Christchurch, the question of ( - p was discussed, and a proposal >as made to ask that the C.D. Acts be iscussion, one speaker remarked that o mention the C.I). Acts to some wown was “like showing a red raj? to i hull.” \\> wonder if these gentlemen reline the cause of women’s strenuous opposition to these Acts. It may be irieflv stated. (i) They recognise a double stand ird of morality, and punish one partler in a dual sin. (:) They practically admit that it is [he dutv of the State to provide '‘clean” women for the lust of men. There is no attempt to protect the nomrn by detaining diseased men. The law does not even attempt to save *ivf« from being affected by disused husbands. It does not try to jrotect children from the awful heritijje of a father’s wild oats. All it ioes is to try to protect men and let il suffering fall upon the women and Children. I (3) It demands a fearful tribute of Hhe nation's girlhood. When women P>ecome diseased and are detained ■resh girls have to supply their place. ■These are infected by filthy men, and wore ar o called for, and so the Knrrle goes on. These girls are BKnostly under eighteen when they are irst ruined. Is it any wonder that the attempt to enforce this vicious system, —to allow vastly, foul men to debauch our girlhood, throw their victims upon the übbish heap, and demand other girls b-wotild drive the womanhood of this Dominion into open revolt? No Government would dare advance such an unjust and one-sided law. The only way to stamp out disease is to stop the sin which causes the lisease. Public opinion must outlaw lie Male as well as the Female prositute.
