TREASURER’S REPORT.

For the Period ending Ist April, i<)i<). Madam President and Dear Sisters, In making up the balance-sheet, which I have the pleasure of present ing to you to-day, I have as in the preceding year, included the Organising Fund as part of the general accounts.. The balanc e-sheet shows that we commenced the yeir with a credit of £l3O is lid in the New Zealand Fund, and /ißg 4s /d in the Organis-

ing fund, making a total of /'314 Os Od; that the total receipts for the year have been 11JSj lOs Od, ad the total expenditure 8s 8d ; and that the ycaf closed with a credit baance ot £l*)y 14s 4d, made up of j£iyy 7s Od in trie N Z. Fund, and ,£SOO Os lod 111 the Organising Fund. It will be evident at once that this year’s transactions on both sides show a very large increase on those tor the previous year, although some of the detail items show slight decreases. Ihe receipts for Capitation Fees, for instance, arc a little less, owing to an increase ot the “V” membership, and a slight decrease of the adult membership, although the total for this year is 4984 as against 4834 for the previous year. There das been a very substantial increase of receipts to the N.Z. Fund under the two headings ol Donations and Franchise Day 1* und, the total for which is /TO9 13s Od, against £sl 4s sd in the preceding year. lhe receipts for the Organising Fund have amounted to /705 14s sd. thanks to the efforts of Miss Weymouth, and the way in which the Branches have, as usual, responded to the call for funds. it was, of course, to be expected that the expenditure would have in creased also considerably, that out of the Organising 1* und being over three times as much as that of the previous year, and the other expenditure twice .is much. It may be noted here that the accounts cover a period of practically thirteen months, as, owing to the delayed sitting of Convention, 1 kept the books open as long as possible. Statements showing details both of the receipts and expenditure under the various headings will be shown for your information. From the balance sheets furnished by the Unions 1 shall also exhibit the usual comparative statement of membership and branch finance. This will show that the Unions which furnished returns had, at the commencement of the year, an aggregate credit balance of Z 735 3s yd; that their total receipts for the year were £s2yo 3d, and their expenditure 5s id; and that they dosed the year with an aggregate credit balance of ,£914 os 1 id. The following Unions have failed to furnish any returns for the year:— liikurangi, Katikati, W ark w orth, Morrinsville, Tokomaru Bay, Patea, and Rangiora; and no returns have been received from iew Unions at Taibape, Bunnvthorp , and \\ inton, and the new Union at Balclutha and Milton are only credited with partial returns. The Tuakau and Ngaio l nions have reported that active work has been suspended The Unions that have paid capitation fees, but failed to send balance-sheets, are Te Kuiti, Pukekohe, Napier, Urenui, Christchurch, and Lettelton. The returns from the Okaiawa Union were received just after the closing of the books.

In the Banner Contest, the lesults this year arc somewhat disapi>oiniing. The Fdcndalc Union has scored the best percentage, i f o |x*r ient., and near the other end of the Dominion, Eden conies second with in per cent. Good percentages are also shown by Hastings, (jure, Hamilton, and- Pukekohe. On the membership increase, Dunedin comes first with 61 members, the next best being Timaiu with 4; members. The whole of the accounts for the year have been audited by Mr ( . I . Garratt, of this city, to whom I would ask Convention to convey its thanks for his assistance. My own thanks are due to the Treasurers of the Branches for the manner in which their icturns have reached me. NELLIE BENT)FLY, N.Z. Treasurer. Auckland, 19th April, 1919.
