Newspaper cutt ngs are unsuitable.) CHRISTCHURCH. December 12. —Annual meeting, Mrs Taylor presiding. Attendance good. The Secretary read the annual report, and the report of work in different departments, which showed good work. The election was by nominating ballot, and resulted as follows:—President, Mrs T. E. Taylor; Rec. See., Miss Bishop; Corr. Sec., Mrs R. Day; Treasurer, Mrs Patterson; Asst. Treasurer, Miss Gordon. Great regret expressed at the inability of Mrs Williams to continue as White Ribbon Agent. Decided to adjourn till January 23. Through the efforts of Mrs Newton, the membership now stands at 220. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mr J. Patterson in his severe illness, and hopes for a speedy recovery. ONEHUNGA. Nov. B.—Mrs Log in in the chair. Meeting addressed by Rev. C. C. Harrison. Letters of sympathy to Mrs Cook in her bereavement, and to a member whose son was sorely wounded. Dec. 13. —Fair attendance. Reports of meetings given by Mrs Logan. Secret. 1 r\ s report read; our membership now numbers 52. Treasurer’s report shows a balance of 8s fd. Decided to write and ask for proxy to be appointed at Convention. BIRKENHEAD. Nov. Mrs Jory presided, and Miss Powell addressed the meeting. Mrs Todd appointed “White Ribbon” correspondent. Arrangements nude for assisting at Soldiers’ Club on November 21 st. Dec. Report of Committee from the Soldiers’ Club, also report of donation to mine-sweepers. Decided to hold drawing-room meeting first Thursday in March, and invite Mrs Garroway to address us. Mrs Jory and Miss Dayman gave short and helpful addresses. DUNEDIN. Dec. 4. Annual meeting, Mrs Hiett presiding. Attendanre good. The Secretary’s report was read and adopted, and showed an increase of membership of 55 for the year. Treasurer reported a balance in hand. A special vote of thanks was accorded

to Mrs Macartney, the retiring Sccrc-1 tary. Officers were elected: Pres.,l Mrs Hiett; Vice-Pres., Mesdames ft Don, Dick, Driver, and Adams; Ret.lc Sec., Nurse Williamson; Treas., Mrs 1 Young. Mrs Driver read an appeal 1 for the Radium Fund, and a special l collection wa«* taken up for the fund, 1 and £\ colic ted. Mrs Lee-Cowie ; gave a brief and inspiring address. WELLINGTON CENTRAL. Dec. 21. Mrs Mc Donald presided. ' Treasurer reported 102 financial members, an increase of 26 for the year. Miss Cockerell gave an address on “Sincerity in Christian Work.” Miss Powell gave an address upon the work done by our Unions, and also spoke upon the Social Hygiene Hill. KATI KATI. Had a most happy time during Miss Powell’s last visit. The girls were interested, and definite work left for them to do. Miss Wilson has them in charge, and they are making up garments for the hoys and girls in Mr Jeffrey’s Home in Auckland. Dec. 13. A well-attended meeting. Mrs Baines presided, and Rev. Stewart gave a fine address. The temperance work has taken deep root in Kati Kati. It has been going its own way too long, and it was a happy thought brought Miss Powell to our rescue. AUCKLAND. On December 12th, Icj 17, our annual meeting was held, Mrs Cook presiding. Vote of sympathy with Mrs Whitehouse and Mrs Dirk in, eac h of whom have lost sons at the Front. Letter from Miss Morrton enclosing £7 16s, half proceeds from minesweepers concert, Church of Christ, Ponsonbv Road. Reports of the year’s work were then received. The Treasurer reported a small credit balance. Miss Weymouth gave a report of her visit to Pakiri. Decided to send box of cake to boys in Featberston camp at intervals. Our present officers were re-elected for iq 18, and superintendents of departments to be appointed first meeting in the New Year. Present New Zealand officers nominated. Mrs J. W. Mrs Cook, on behalf of the Union, presented Miss Weymouth (whose time expires at end of the year) with a handsome leather purse, containing £2, and expressed appreciation of her valuable services during the year. Dec. 8. A social was given, and a general invitation to the public was heartily accepted, there being a crowded hall. A fine programme was rendered. Mrs Rennie being in the chair. An Executive meeting was held at Mrs Gozar’s in the morning, and Miss Weymouth being present, was able to give advice and help on many weak points. NEW PLYMOUTH. Nov. 5. Annual meeting held, when reports of work throughout the district were read. At New Plymouth, after nearly 21 years, the care of the Ladies’ Rest Room in the Carnegie Library Building has been given up by the Union, the Borough Council undertaking it. Many grateful thanks were tendered to Miss Ambury more especially, and others for their unremitting attention to and care of the room. The ejection of officer; resulted in the Union being 1 ft without a President for the time being. Sec., Mrs Griffin; Treas., Mis' Taunt; “White Ribbon” Agent, Miss Taunt. Mrs Douglas, after 21 years’ service as President, retired. It was, she thought, best to introduce new blood as soon as possible. PAHIATUA. Dec. 20. Drawing-room meeting. Mrs Neal presided. Rescue Home, and the difficulty experienced in dealing with the various characters and temperaments. Reported that 54 Christmas comfort bags for sailors, 54 needle-books, and £\ had been sent to Wellington and Lyttelton. One member initiated. Collection for World’s W.C.T.U. Missionary Fund. CAMBRIDGE. Oct. Attendance good, Mrs Janies presiding. Mrs A. T. Watson elected as delegate to the District Convention. A paper was read at Convention by delegate on “ The Secret of Effectiveness.” A letter was sent to our member thanking him for his support of the 6 o’clock Bill. Nov. Mrs James presided. Mrs Nimmo wrote thanking us for parcel for mine sweepers, valued at £ 10 8s iid. Mrs Jones, District President, read her instructive Convention address, and was thanked. Aft< moon tea was served. Sympathy was expressed for those who had been bereaved in the past few weeks. It has been a month of heavy losses for this district. Reports of the year’s work and finance were read. Miss McCarthy presided. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Pres., Miss McCarthy; Rec. Sec., Sister Agnes; Cor. Sec., Miss E. McCarthy; Treas., Miss Reid; Supt. Cradle Roll, Mrs Eahev; Library and Literature, Mrs Gardiner; Maori Work, Mrs Kaye; Moral Hygiene, Miss McCarthy; Medical Temj>eranre, Mrs Saunders. After this Mrs Hiett briefly addressed the meeting. PUKEKOHE. Nov. Mrs Stevenson presided. Miss Powell gave an interesting account of the work of the W.C T.U. W hile here M Pom ell did a good deal of visiting, result five new members and two subscribers to “White Ribbon” paper. Dec. Meeting held in usual building, President in the chair. The Secretary read acknowledgments of £1 14s fid in cash and £3 gs for minesweepers. Treasurer was authorised to send ,£1 to defray cost of advertising in “White Ribbon.” The election of officers for the ensuing year was postjioned until a larger attendance.

HAMILTON EAST. Nov. 20. Annual meeting. Although this L'nion was only inaugurated on March ibth last, we have a roll call f of 16, with a cradle roll of }7, which may be considered fair, as so many ladies' time is taken up with patriotic affairs. The Branch was represented at the District Convention on the ibth October. Our first mothers’ meeting was held in October, and a very enjoyable and helpful afternoon was spent. NAPIER. Dec. 5. Annual meeting. Attendance good. The reports showed that progress had been made through the year, the membership standing at 151, with 23 honorary members. A branch was started at Ormondville, and good reports were received from other branches in the district. Much had been done for the mine-sweepers. The Treasurer’s balance showed a credit of /?8 ns, nearly double the balance of last year. Mrs Fawcett was elected delegate to Convention. Mrs Fossey gave a report of her work on the Hospital Board. The Hospital has been regularly visited and cottage prayer meetings maintained throughout the year. HAMILTON. Nov. 6. Annual meeting. Mrs Horne and Mrs Paul were elected President and Secretary respectively, without opposition; Mrs E. J. Davey Financial Secretary; Mrs H. Gaulton, Hospit ' Visitoi .iinl Agent for “White Ribbon”; Mis ClifFe, Reporter to local paper; Mrs Oliver, Reporter to ‘‘White Ribbon.” Mrs Jones and Mrs Henderson were appointed Superintendents of the evangelical part of our Union. EDEN. Nov. 21. W’eather stormy. Few attended. Mrs Cook (District President) took the chair. The usual prayer meeting was held. Decided to postpone a l l business till next meeting. Dec. 19. Mrs Scanlen .presided. Letters were read from Hon. G. \V. Russell regarding Social Hygiene. Ml the present officers were re-elected for next year. Votes were taken on the following subjects:—Dominion officers; Mrs Crabb’s notice of motion, Miss Powell’s notice of motion.
