Someone Ending In Y
Dear Murray, As editor of RIU, a thought or two next time you’re in edit mode. While over the years I’ve looked forward to each release of this hallowed mag’, these days I’m several dollars poorer for the experience, so naturally one has more of a pecuniary interest in the contents. In Jan’s issue, remember 1994: The Way We Say It Was etc.? Frankly, Elvis Slag said it all and, what’s more, got it all on one page. A comic in print he or she may be, but your other writers certainly are not. No less than three pages given over to bottomclenching self indulgence. Space that could’ve been used for... er, I dunno... maybe music even. See, I couldn’t give a Blue Monkey’s™ arse where Johnny, Jeremy, Willy, Bronny and anyone else who ends in ‘y’ go when they crave a cold curry and nachos, what was on the telly at the Hawaiian Hilton, or what album they really hated but didn’t get the nod to review, in-joke, in-joke. Hype Flop? If it’s not too intensely personal, it’s the bleedin’ obvious. On the whole, a little too contrived.
Hey, I understand your position as the Grandest of Poohbahs. Let’s face it, it was a chance for the team to blow off a bit and get
some of their yuks in print. Maybe it’ll stop ‘Oasis Wank’ and the likes from being carved into the paint above the urinal at the RIU office.
Still... I reckon you wanna spend some of those coins I’ve been sending you lately and go out and buy a big ol’ whiteboard for the canteen and some pens. Better get a range of colours too. C. Bay, Dunedin.
