Future Home Of 4YA Has Other Takers
BYES, other than those of the : NBS, are focussed upon the old Garrison Hall and former chief post office in Dunedin. It has been earmarked as the future home of 4YA, and plans for its reconstruc tion as a modern broadcasting headquarters are in course cf preparation. Meantime the Dunedin Centennial Committe decided that the hall and old "Ctago Daily Times" building alongside should be demolished and the land used for a community-centre building, to be Otago’s Centennial memorial. Committe finally voted against the suggestion and decided that a Centennial park be created on Signal Hill. That, however, has not left the Garrison Halli to the undisputed possession of the NBS. Committee strongly favours the erection of a community-centre as a memorial for Otago’s centenary in 1948, and the very strong public support accorded the motion now means that the Government is to be approached with a request for the Garrison Hall site. Site is ideal for the memorial; it is debatable whether it is as ideal for a broadcasting station.
