N.Z. Soon To See Gay American Stage Show
("Record" Melbourne Reporter.) NEW ZEALAND is definitely to see the bright and clever American musical comedy, ‘‘I Married an Angel,’’ which opened here in Melbourne last Saturday night before a packed house. Here, in this brilliant Rogers and Hart comedy, is something of the technique of the films-no long dreary waits between acts, swift movement, changing colour and lights. The cast, too, moves along in the spirit of the show. Ernest Rolls
picked the principals himself when he was in the United States and he seems to have got hold of some winners. Bernice Claire, whom many New Zealanders will remember on the screen. is one of the principals. She told me that she is looking forward to the New Zealand tour-she spent only one day in Auckland on her way from Los Angeles, but she liked the town and she liked New Zealanders. Helen Denizon is a famous New York dancer who plays the part of the angel in "I Marriec an Angel." She’s got beauty, ability and a flair for getting 100 per cent personality over the footlighis. The leading man is Jack Arthur who has had plenty of experience on the stage, and in,radio. He confessed quite frankly that he’s not wildly enthusiastic about the screen-nor {and this is his own confession, too) are the film magnates wildly enthusiastic about him. Why I can’t imagine, because he has looks,’ talent. and plenty of punch. . Four more important. American names in the cast are Kathryn Crawford, George Dobbs, Maryon Dale and Fred Harper. Wellknown Australians who are in the show include Field Fisher, Rene Maxwell and Jan Kowsky. New Zealand is going to enjoy "J Married an Angel" when it crosses the Tasman. ,
