NOTE refereuce by "Airfan’" jn last weeks’ DX notes to WIOXDA, Th-s is the fumous schooner Effie Morrissey, and if "Airfan" will send me a s.amp I will forward the address aud particulars so that he cain verify this catch, I might also mention that there are different expeditions ,which transmit on shortwave, and other siationgs which are erected for a special purpose gud which are well gone by the time news arrives. So I recommend those who pick up anything special, to make out a full report at the time, and write for details, as I am in receipt of a great deal of intormation and possibly can supply the ‘information neceswary to secure what mighi be a very rare card. A competition for which special cards are being printed is now running. ‘I'o those who are the first to send waveleugth, call and, if possible, times, of a new station, one of these ecards will be posted. Preseut winners are lan IW. iienderson, Wellington (Kadio Vodebrady); Miss "Marian," Hamilton (COCQ) and C.N.G.. Milford, with VPD2. At the end of each period, the one with the most cards will receive 4 certificate, — Watch for one or two new Cubans. By the way, my Havana correspondent tells ine that they are botlfered with the hurmonies vf Some 40 broadcasting statione »in that city. New York aleo picks up some very strong harmonies which at times cause argument amongst the DX fraternity, for in the U.S.A. they tas: DX yery seriously. A big batch of letters from American stump collectors, who wish to exchange with New Zealand, is to bund. Lo am running .the list off on the duplicator and will send a copy to anyone whu encloses a stamp. A young Australian lisiener asks me to find him a young lady pen pal, aged ubout 17 (in a footnote the writer says he prefer blondes), so, if someone of that description cares-to apply I will be pleased to forward particulars, _ A Canadian member, who has a eer ious physical disability which prevents him from going out, sent me a dollar bill as a donation towards elub work. A listener who is keenly interested im Dayentry has received a reply thanking him for his: suggestions and notifying that the No. 1 transmission will be modified to better suit New Zealand conditions, Dayentry engineers ure ulways pleased to -receive reports and suggestions. The German shortwave authorities also write askiug me to remind listeners of the value of their reports to the station. An inereuse in thelr power ma) have been noticed by listeners. Some time ago | mentioied a power ful Ruesian station at 11 pum. with a musical programme, . Overseas corres: pundence tells me that RVU, Vladiyostock, on 18:78 mw. was playing recorde wbour this time, Another station (the only part of the call we could get was TIS --- --) on 27.88 metres, aboug J aun. now appears, accordiug to different over Seas correspondents, to be TISSJ. located at Bangkok," So this appears to solve two mysteries, Our cld-time friend, Senor Cespedes Marin ("Me and NRE"), having completed. his service with TIRCG, has resumed with his own station TI4RNUH, at Heredia, Conta Rica. Wavelength is 30.5 metres (984 me), The Senor may use the old familiar bugle but these instruments are so popular on shortwave nowadays that listeners should wait for the eall. -YV5RMO, Maracaibo, Venezuela, 51.25 metres (5,85 m.c.), is badly affected
by a high powered telegraph station, The International Shortwave Club asks me to request, listeners to identify the call so that the station can be notified. A 28+valve commercial receiver is on the market overseds and the head of the company handling it is a New Zealander.: : Despite my warning, a listener eucloses an envelope with only a penny stamp on it, asking me to address and post. My Scotch benevolence finds the other penny halfpenny to complete the job. Without disclosing the identity of either party, an overseas postcard in-formed-a station that he had heard them at such-and such a time, would they send him a card. Of course, brevity is the soul of wit, and his humour might, or might not, land a. card. But we imagine that a decerit report, together with a coupon, would be a better course, especially in these days of thousands of reports to every station heard on the air,
