Gracie Fields Gets £195,000 For Three Talkies
Progress of Associated Talking Pictures When Associated .Talking Pictures acquired the services of Gracie Fields and Basil Dean, the battle for film recognition ‘was already half won. This British company, with. studios at Baling © Green, has starred Gracie Fields. the world-famous comedienne, in .. several highly-successful films, including "Sally in Our Alley" and. "Looking on the Bright Side.’ Basil Dean is one of. the world’s greatest producers, and his films have been shown .at important theatres in all parts of the world. It is possible. that Mr. Dean will shortly visit Australia, where he will make an historical film with Clive ‘Brook in the leading role. .
-T the present time Gracie Fields is having a speli before starting on ‘the second of the three £65,000 pictures she is to make this year for A.T.P. The first, "Look Up and Laugh," for which the seript was written by 3. B .Priestley, is now on its way to Australia and New Zealand. The second, which will be directed by Monty Banks, is to be titled "Up With the Lark," while the third, "Say Grace," will ‘take Gracie to ‘America for the shooting of some of the scenes. Leslie Henson, who made such a success of "A Warm Corner," is to make three films for the company this year. They are not titled yet, but if they measure up to the standard of "A Warm Corner" they'll be worth looking out for. Another comedian to appear in films under the A,T.P. banner is Stanley Lupino, who is to make'a musical farce called "Honeymoon for Three." Stanley Lupino leapt into the
talkie limelight with "Sleepless Nights." Do you remember hig singing of that amusing song "I Don't Want To Go To Bed"? Hughie Green is to make three pictures-one of them will be. "Midshipman Hasy." . The other two have not yet been titled. Clive Brook has temporarily. forsaken Hollywood, and is now with A.T.P. His first picture will be "London Symphony," based on a story ‘by Philip and Anthony Gibbs. His second picture will probably be the Aus‘tralian picture mentioned above. The talented London stage’ star, Victoria Hopper, will also make two films, "Whom the Gods Loye" and "Come Live With Me, " poth -by, Mar garet Kennedy. . Other pictures’ include. "Ballerina, " based.on Bleanor Smith’s novel, ."The Silent. Passenger," starring John Loder, "Tt Happened in Paris,’ "Hassan," with music by Delius, and ‘‘1812," a J.B. Priestley adaptation.
