Radio Round the World
N agitation is arising in India for broadcasting to become more than a medium of enjoyment and listeners are demanding that the services shall extend hours for a complete educational system for every class of the people. It is contended that while a few thousands may be interested in market quotations, many millions desire know: ledge of their country and the factors that have pauperised the people for so many centuries. 2 z * NB of the most prolific factories for radio ideas in America is the brain of Mr. O. H. Caldwell, formerly Federal Radio Commissioner, A volume could be filled with the various gadgets and novelties which Mr. Caldwell has invented. His latest is an attachment to radio receiving sets whereby "an electric light or bell or chimes would automatically call the attention of listeners to an extraordinary programme that has not been previously scheduled." Mr. Caldwell points out that this could be operated quite easily by means of a "flutter" or special signal transmitted from ‘the broadcasting station. The listener would then know when the latest transatlantic fliers were about to arrive and "say their mouthful" at the .microphone. Eg * = HE Lucerne Plan together with the French Ferrie Plan will affect priyate stations in France, though to what extent igs not yet known, Radio-Nor-mandie has-been compelled to reduce its power to 700 watts and other private stations are wondering how they will be affected.
