2YA Musical and Dramatic Committee

R. BE. PALLISER presided. over a meeting of the 2YA Musical and Dramatic Committee, there being present: Messrs. L. J. Retallick (Apollo Singers), W. P. McLachlan (Wellington Competitions Society), J. Carr (Charley’s Aunt Club), W. A. Jamieson (Theatrical and Operatic Society). Vv. R. Bennett (Wellington Harmonic Society), I. M. Levy ("Radio Record"), BF. Dawson (Wellington Symphony Orchestra), E. A. Anson ("Dominion"), Dr. I. L. G. Sutherland (W.H.A.), Cap‘tain Galloway (Commercial Travellers’ Male Voice Choir), Messrs. O. M. Pritchard and J. Ball, and Mrs. D. Basham.

USE SL The chairman reported on the question of the great success of the community singing, which had realised a total of £513/5/4. A resolution expressing the committee’s thanks to Messrs. Palliser and Jamieson for the excellent work they had done was passed by the committee. Replying, Mr. Palliser said the work had been a labour of love and it had been very gratifying to see their sings grow from two hundred people to thousands. Mr. Jamieson said that thousands of letters of appreciation had been received. Referring to the broadcasting of concerts, Mr. Dawson said the Symphony Orchestra had a most successful year in spite of the fact that all concerts had been broadcast. The chairman said it was a treat to be associated with such a _ fine body. Great tribute had been paid to Mr. De Mauny, the conductor, by eminent musicians. The next meeting of the committee will take place on Monday, December 7, Other Committees. 38YA Musical and Dramatic Committee met on November 5, there being present: Messrs. §. MacKenzie, and Dr. F. C. A’Court (Harmonie Society and Competitions Society). A meeting of the 4YA Children’s Sessions Advisory Committee was held on December 6. Present: Misses McIntyre (League of Nations’ Union) Coe-Smith (8.P.W.O.), P. Hindle (Y.W, C.A.), Rev. S. J. Cooper (Anglican Boys’ Home), Pastor W. D. More (children’s organiser), and Mr. A. O’Donoghue.
