Notes from Auckland [HH community’singing will be relayed from the Auckland Town Hail at 12.80 p.m. Under the auspices of the Department of Health, Dr. A. Henderson will speak from 1YA ,the subject being, "What to do till the Doctor Comes." Two new artists on 1YA’s_ programme, Mrs. J. 8S. Smith, a very fine soprano with English training, and W.' H, Harvey, bass, a former member of; the Christchurch Cathedral Choir. Si Sly, the new trombonist of ‘the 1YA Orchestra, will play, with orchestral aceompaniment, Schubert’s beautiful song, "Am Meer." Recently, the 1YA Musical and Dramatie Advisory Committee recommended the broadcasting of a series of illustrated musical lectures, and on this programme Mr. H. Hollinrake, Mus. Bach., M.A., Director of Music at the Auckland Training College, and of the W.E.A., will talk ‘on the instruments of the orchestra, taking the violin and the viola. These talks are designed for thos who wish to eiijoy to the full this par. ticular branch of entertainment. Instrumental items‘ will be‘given by the 1YA Orchestra, under the direction of Hayod Baxter. Selections from 2YA N the afternoon the: Australia Vv. Maoris’ match will be relayed from Palmerston North. Dr. Guy H. Scholefield, O.B.K., will be the lecturer on the 2YA international programme. Selections from 3YA ONCERTED, solos and vocal numbers will be broadcast by the Salon Quartet. -Taicy’ Fullwood will contribute pianoforte solos and the remainder of the: instrumental portion of the programme will be provided by the Studio Octet;.wnder Harold Beck. 4YA-Notes A NEW combination of artists from -thé studio of G. W. Johnstone, one of Dunedin’s leading tutors, is scheduled to appear. ‘

Mr. Johnstone, who possesses a beautiful baritone voice of exceptional quality, and interpret his songs with splendid effect, will sing Schubert and Schumann songs, and in addition will be heard in a duet, "Twilight," with Beatrice Sproston, Rona Thompson, pianist, will present ‘‘Concert Study in D Plat," by Liszt. This work is a difficult composition which requires artistry on the part of the pianiste. The remainder of the instrumental portion of the programme . will be left in the capable hands of the Wallace, Baker, Moffatt trio, Those who appreciate Mr. Johnstone’s outstanding work in musical circles. in Dunedin will look forward with great pleasure to this evening’s entertainment, presented as it is by such talented and accomplished artists.
