Short-Wave Club

‘N The Secretary Writes A MBETING of the Wellington district of the club will be held in Nimmo’s Concert Hall on Thursday, August 27, at 7.30 p.m., when all interested in radio, whether DX or shortwave, are invited to be present, As this will be a members’ open night there should be something to earn. . ZLABO put over a special test recently and asked particularly for reports. Unfortunately, replies were few. If a station which is doing so much for shortwavers, by giving out technical lectures, ete., is not worth support, then it is hardly worth using time and power. On the other hand, a number of listeners were prepared to report, but with the interference from a shortwave station and Id do nothing here. The tests are not fined to members, but are open to all shortwavers. This station always replies with a card, and I hope listeners will encourage his efforts. Speaking of interference, from my correspondence there is a growing feeling that something should be done,. and it is suggested that the various clubs should combine and see that something is done. Someone thoughtfully sent a "Record" to New York, when they wrote to somebody, over there, and, as a result, I have had some information sent to me. By the beginning of September it is anticipated that reception from overseas will be back to normal again. Although heterodynes from the broadcast we _in a very bad locality from an interference point of view, I have.been getting good results, There are several stations which we have at last managed to deeipher, and from 11 p.m. on a number . come in quite loudly. With the view of assisting boys of 16 and under, the club is prepared to enrol them at a low subscription. The secretary \ will. naturally require proof of age.‘Yours, A. B. McDonagh, Secretary, N.Z. Shortwave Club, 274 Cuba Street, Wel- _ ington.
