Auckland Notes HE weekly sing-song at the Town Hall, commencing at 12.30 p.m., will be relayed. At 7.40, Miss G. Driver will give a talk on books. A new instrumental ensemble is appearing at 1YA this evening-Bert Kingsland’s "Two-in-One’ Bandwhich consists of nine experienced players, each of whom plays at least two instruments. Very many interesting items have been arranged for this performance, both classic and popular, Mr. J. M. Clark, that most entertaining of elocutionists, will give two numbers, one of them being the old favourite, "How Rubenstein Played the Piano." In this number he will be
assisted by Mr. Cyril Towsey. The Misses Hdna and Phyllis Tye will appear in @ number of piano and vocal selections. These two young.-ladies are very talented and have previously delighted listeners with their artistic performances. Mr. Albert ‘Gibbons Taylor, bass-baritone, and late of the Westminster Glee Singers, will sing, . among other numbers, "Down Among the Dead Men" and "The Mountains o’ Mourne." Astronomical Society, will speak on Y "What are the Stars?" Dr. Guy H. Scholefield, 0.B.9., will: be the lecturer during the International Programme. From Christchurch "THE first of a series of talks on "Tree Trimming" will be broadcast from 8YA by Mr. D. HB. Parton. A concert arranged by Mrs. J. W. Palk, will be broadcast in the evening. Mrs. Palk is one of the Christchurch teachers who have trained their pupils specially for microphone singing. Concerted numbers, as well as solos, will be sung. Mrs. Palk will be heard in "Alla Stella Confidente," sung to ’cello obligato by Mr. Harold Beck, while in company with Mr. A. 8. Bell she will also take part in {wo duets. One of Mr. Bell’s solos, "Bird ‘Songs at Hventide," will have a backvound of bird voices. On the instrumental side of the musical programme will be Miss Maisie Ottey, pianiste, playing light classical numbers, and the Studio Octet, under Mr. Beck.
Dunedin Notes "{XOOD Meal Planning on an Average Income" will be the subject for the afternoon talk by the Home Science Extension Department of Otago University. At 7.15, Mr. L. W. McCaskill will review the August issue of the Journal of Agriculture. Both talks are under the auspices of the 4YA Primary Productions Committee. A programme of vocal and instrumental compositions by Mr. Chas. A. Martin, Mus. Bach., will be broadcast ‘this evening. Mr. Martin will play ~ several pianoforte solos and will also give, under the auspices of the Society of Musicians, a lecture-recital on "Gries." "8
