Music for Route Marches
N innovation has just been introduced in the Swiss Army by which gramophone records will replace the military band, and officers will. issue commands through the microphone to the troops on route marches and during manoeuvres, ‘Men in -the rear of a battalion are generally dissatisfied and dispirited during a long march, because they cannot hear the music of the band. ‘This defect has now been remedied by Swiss officer’s invention, which consists) in part of a small disc, attached to-tlje collar of ‘he soldier’s tunic, and acting like a radio receiver.. The first trials of the new system took place at Lausanne, and the recruits were. delighted with the results.
