‘HAYDN EVENING Broadeast From 1YA. | ON Friday evening a special programme, commemorating the birthday of Haydn, which is the 3ist of March, will be given. Special records have been selected, and the Studio Trio will play, amongst other numbers, "Gypsy Rondo," "Ox Minuet," and "Military Minuet." Mr. Erie Waters will play as a pianoforte solo, the first. movement of "Sonata in E Flat." Haydn is known as the father of the sonata. The vocalists will be Miss Millicent O’Grady (soprano) and Mr. Len Barnes (baritone),. who have chosen numbers from "The Seasons" and "Creation." The 1YA Broadcasting Choir will sing the wonderful chorus, "The Heavens are Telling’ (from "Creation"). The principal item of the evening will be two short talks ou the "Life and Works of Haydn," by Mrs. Daisy Basham. Preceding the studio programme will be a relay from
Lewis Hady Hall of latest instrumental and vocal: music. From 2YA. N excellent programme of operatie items will be given on Friday evening, the vocalists being Miss Kathleen Ferris, Mr. Ernest Short, Miss Edith Buckmaster, and Mr, Will- Hancock. The items will include such well-known solos as "Ah! fors e lui" from "La Traviata," "Eri Tu" from "Un Ballo Maschera," "Strida La Vampa" ("Il Trovatore’), and "Largo al Factotum" ("Barber of Seville’). A feature of the programme will be the soprano solo with flute obligato, "Lo, Here the Gentle Lark," to be
sung by Miss Kathleen Ferris, a young singer from the studio of Signor A. P. Truda. This item was the subject of very favourable comment by the judge of singing at the last Wellington Competitions, and’ is always a great favourite with local audiences. The obligato will be pldyed by Mr. Cyril Ainsworth, a well-known Wellington flautist. The elocutionary portion of the programme will be given by Miss Nancy Abernethy, a recent arrival from Dunedin. The Orchestrina’s items will include Franke’s "Concert Overture," "The Marriage of Figaro," "A Night in Madrid," the "William Tell" battle
music, and the concert valse "Remembrance." Miss Gladys Morgan will play as a pianoforte solo Godard’s "Morning," From 3YA, THIS evening’s programme will comprise a popular concert and dance music session. The numbers to be heard will comprise mouth-organ, ‘cello, mezzo-soprano, tenor, and baritone solos, monologues at the piano, humorous items and selections by the Christchurch Broadcasting Trio, The solo artists will be Mr. H. M. Cornish, Mr. H. Beck, Miss Molly Metson, Mr. L. C. Quane, Mr. A. Gladstone Brown, Miss Alice Chapman and Mx Geo. Titchener, From 4YA, THE ‘Winkel-Lampen Radio Players will. be heard when two speciallyselected sketches will be ‘presented. Mr. F. V. Drake’s Quintet will provide the major portion of the programme. Mrs. ©. Drake will play Chopin’s famous "Scherzo in B Flat Minor," while Miss Ethel Wallace will present Rimsky-Korsakov’s "Song of India," ararnged by Kreisler.
