Architectural Competition in Napier.

The Public Trustee is calling for competitive designs for the erection of an office building at Napier at the corner of Dalton and Tennyson streets, nearly opposite the Municipal Theatre. The building is to cost £12,000 and the furniture and fittings £ISOO. Provision is made for a specially built strongroom to be used as a public safe repository. Competition is limited to architects in the Hawkes Bay district.

Some big prices are being obtained for building sections in our cities. In Wellington what is believed to be a record price for any land sold in the city has just been paid by the Union Bank of Australia, namely, £503 a foot. The land has a 45ft. frontage to Lambton Quay with a depth of about 50ft., and in Auckland a block of buildings known as Darby's Buildings, with a frontage of 33| feet to Queen street, has just been sold for £45,000. After deducting the value of the building, the price works out at £750 per foot.
