DIOCESE OF AUCKLAND
(By telegraph, from our own correspondent.) April 14. Very Rev. Dean McKenna and Rev. Father T. McKenna left by the Makura on Saturday for Vancouver en route for the Old Land. Rev. Father Holbrook is having a pleasant holiday. Writing under date March 11 to Rev. Father Furlong, he stated he was enjoying the best of health. From Jerusalem he intended proceeding to Nazareth, Constantinople, and Rome, after which he goes to Ireland. Large numbers approached the Holy Table at the various churches in the city on last Sunday. At St. Benedict's the men's monthly Communion took place, and there were close on two hundred communicants. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was held at the Sacred Heart Church, and large numbers received Holy Communion. A moonlight concert, held at Mrs. Geo. Fraser's grounds, Northcote, last week in aid of the Church funds, was largely attended. Many town sympathisers were present at the function, which was very successful. Mr. Walter Kirby, the eminent Auckland vocalist, who opened a short season in the Town Hall to-night, was entertained at a reception in St. Benedict's Hall last night, when 300 parishioners attended. Speeches were made by Right Rev. Mgr. Gillan, Messrs. J. J. O'Brien, and E. Mahoney. Vocal items were given by Messrs. J. Egan and F. Adene.
