V (From our own correspondent.) November 22-. j- To-day the jubiilee celebration of the Sisters of Mercy in- Auckland is being, celebrated at" St. Mary'© Convent, . Ponsonby. The Onehunga Catholic Men's Club some time ago tendered a complimentary euchre party and "social to its lady friends, and, last Wednesday evening the latter returned .the compliment by giving a similar- entertainment to the club. It was a great success, the . club room's being full. Rev. Father Mahaney was - present. After the euchre party a nice supper was served. -A very enjoyable evening was spent. Rev. Father Lynch, who has been transferred from Caromandel to Kihikihi, was on the eve of his departure from the former place, entertained at a conversazione, at which^an address and purse of- sovereigns were presented to him. Members of other denominations attended to mark the high esteem in which, they held Father Lynch. The "address was read by Mr. J. B. Rockliff. Mr. T. W. Rhodes also spioke, and eulogised the good work done in the district by Father Lynch, who had endeared himself to them all, and they parted with him with . the very • deepest regret. The Rev. Father Lynch feelingly replied, and thanked the- people for their great and constant kindness to him since he had been with them. He would never • forget them. A nice- musical programme was provided during the evening. •Rev. Fathers -McCormaclc and Sullivan, of Maitlarfd" diocese, arrived here last Sunday by the ' Victoria ' from Sydney. They are on a holiday tour through the Dominion. Both of them, being old Thurles College students, were delighted to find in Auckland two> priests from the same seminary— Rev. Fathers Furlong and Tormey. They left yesterday for the Thames. From there they journey to Paeroa to visit the Very Rev. Dean Hackett, thence to Rotorua, and then down the. Wanganui River to Wellington. Father McCormack goes to the West Coast, where his sister, Mrs. O'Rourke, and his brother, Mr. W. McCormack, reside at Granity. They, expect to be absent three months from Maitlan-d. It' is fourteen years since Father McCormack was in •Auckland. Last Friday evening the concert given in honor of the eleventh anniversary of the consecration of his LordshiD the Bishop was a great success. His Lordshin and a large number of the clergy were present,' "and a large and appreciative audience. " The hall was ' nicely decorated. The feature of the entertainment was the singing of the orphan children. * Their performance certainly ranked very high, and spoke volumes for the attention bestowed, upon them by the good Sisters . of Mercy. The following was the programme : — Part song, lOh bail us ye free,' i?he o.rphans ; *cello solo, Herr Blitz ; song, ' II baccio,' Madame Cassier ; « Halleluiah chorus (' The Messiah '), St." Patrick's Choir (conducted by Mr. P. F. Hiscocks) ; song, ' The swallows,' Miss ' Alda Ralph; solo and chorus, « A dolly and her coach,'

the orphans'; song, 'My queen,' Mr. John Fuller; part song, 'I- would that my love,' the orphans ; 'musical monologue, ' The poet, ' Mr. Harry Herbert ; grand scene and aria, '.Miserere ' (' II Trovatore '), Miss Annie Lorrigan, Mr. John Fuller, and St. Patrick's Choir (conductor Mr. P., F. Hiscocks, organist Mr." H. Hiscocks) ; solo and chorus, 'To the woods,' part song, ' Good night, farewell,' the orphans. Mrs. Mac Andrew, Mrs. Ralph, and Mr. Harry Hiscocks were the accompanists. Mr. Thomasi Holbrook, the energetic secretary, is '"deserving of commendation for the efficient manner in which he carried out his numerous duties.
