OBITUARY
-CAPTAIN JOHN BLANEY, DUNEDIN, We regret to the death of Captain John Blaney, who passed away at his" residence, - Anderson's Bay road, South Dunedin, on Sunday. The 'deceased was in his 64th- year, having been born in the - North of Ireland in 1843. " As a master mariner, the late Captain. Blaney was engaged for many years in the coastal trade. The deceased had been ill for some days, but no serious consequences were feared, as he was apparently getting better when his death occurred. The sad event caused widespread grief among his many friends in Dunedin, toy one and all of whom he was highly , respected. - The late Captain - Blaney was noted for his kindly nets in cases of necessity, and no appeal on behalf of any deserving case was ever made to him in vain. The, deceased was twice married, and leaves a widow and ohtild, in' addition to three daughters'- -issue of' Ms- first marriage, -to • mourn - their .loss. The remains were taken 'to St. Patrick's Basilica on Wednesday morning, "when a solemn Requjiem Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father O'Reilly, Rev. Father Howard being deacon, Rev. "Father Corcoran sibdeacon, - Rev. Father Goffey master of ceremonies. The music of the Mass -was sung by ' the choir of the Sisters of Mercy. The funeral took place in the .afternoon at the Southern, Cemetery, when the -Rev. Father Howard officiated at the grave. — R.LP.
