OBITUARY
MR. T. LEATHEM, TAI TAPU.
By the death of Mr. T. Leathern, at <*New Brighton at the age of. 75^' on , : the sth . inst., -Canterbury loses one of her pioneer -settlers. The deceased' was born .in Oounty Cavan, Ireland, and had resided at Tai Tapu to within a few weeks o£ his death for over 32 years. ' He was -ailing for the past six months, 'but his death was still unexpected. The deceased was a thorough Catholic, j And never neglected .an opportunity during his long .life of attending Mass. -He was attended in his last illness by the Rev., Fathers Hickson and Richards, and was fortified by - the last rites of .the Church,. 'A Requiem Mass- - was- - celebrated tat St. Mary's, Manchester^ street, by -the Rev. Fathef" Hoarp, and thence the funeral . proceeded to the chiurch at Stand's Track and on to >he "Lincoln Cemetery. The 'Rev. Father Richards officiated ,at the grave. The cortege was one of the "longest ever seen in the district, testifying, to the respect in which the* deceased 'was held. 'Mrs. Leathern pre-deceased her husband by 'five years'. He leases a family 'of grownup sbns^and .daughters to mourn their loss.— R: l. P.
