ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINGTON

The grand work that the Redemptorist Fathers have done for the Church in New "Zealand by their missions is so generally recognised, that it is welcome news to hear that two more priests of the Order have been attached to the branch -house in th ; ie Colony They are Father P. M. .Lynch, formerly of Dunedin, and Father Lowham, of Victoria. Father Lynch, - since leaving the Colony, has been stationed at the head house in Limerick, and has earned a reputation as a zealous priest and ,an eloquent preacher. Those of us that have listened during the past week to the splendid sermons of Father, Lowham, must feel that in him the Church has secured a very gifted mfssioner. -The services of these two- priests will indeed be a great "blessing to New Zealand.

The mission for, men was opened at St. Joseph's, P.sicklt street, on -.Sunday evening by the Very Rev Father Clune, C.SS.R., who delivered an impressive discourse on ' Faith ' to a congregation that filled every part of the sacred ' edifice. The services both morning and evening have been blessed with record attendances of men, and on Friday night a solemn seryice in honor of the Sacred Heart was- held. The children's mission has been conducted by the Rev. Father MacDermott C.SS.R., On Sunday morning at 7.30 a grand military Mass will be celebrated. Permission has 'been granted for the permanent foice and the local volunteers to attend —in full-riress uniform. - The mission will be continued for another week. The missioners and the local clergy are highly gratified with the- results that have so far attended their efforts.

The justice of Ireland's demand for Home Rule is being more generally recognised every day, and the question is rapidly coming to the front as one that deeply concerns every part of the Empire. Irishmen throughout the Colony, and lovers of fair play generally will welcome as a hopeful .sign the news that during the week the Hon. A. It. Guinness, M.H.R. for Grey, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, gave notice to ask the Premier whether before the end of the session he will propose a motion for presentation to the King, on the lines of the Commonwealth Parliament urging that Homo Rule should be granted to Ireland ihe Premier's answer will be anxiously awaited There are very many in the House who, apart altogether from mere sentiment born of nationality or otherwise will be prepared to support such a motion as is suggested, on the grounds of justice alone. On Thursday evening a social gathering was held'i n v- J * a * nck s H all to celebrate the recent successes achieved by members of the Young Men's Club The president of the club (Rev. Father O'Shea, S.M.) pres ded. During the evening he received -on behalf of the cub a very fine silver shield, which was won by the SS% h£ \T ers , a Y eek or so a S°' awl wh^ will be held by the club for a year. The three ohief toasts honored were 'The Harriers,' proposed by Mr C. Gam! ble and acknowledged by Messrs. As a result of tSsfsSclssS members have been fired with a zeal that H is Kd will inspire them to achieve even greater -honors.
