MR. W. H. HAYDON, DUNEDIN.
On Tu'osd'aiy morning of last* week there passed away at the Central Hotel, Dunedin, a well known and highly 'esteemed resident of tho city in the person of Mr. W. H. Ulay don, at the age of 72 years. The 'deceased was a native of London and came out to Victoria when he was nineteen years of age. After spending about a dozen years on the Victorian gpldfields he came) to this Colony, where he was first engaged as> a gold ihiyer at Duns'tian for one of the blank®. Later on he became manager of the old Port Chalmers Hotel. After a time, he commenced business on his own accoaijnt, since when he lad been englaged in conducting hotels in \arious parts of Dunedin— for a period of 36 years. Thd late Mr. Haydon was a very well read man, bmti b)emg> of a retiring disposition, he did not taJvC an active part in public affairs. Over a year ago his 'hearth fclpgan to fail, and from that time until his death ho was pTa'ctically an invalid. A widow and one son— Mir. George Haydon — are left to mourn their loss. On Thursday morning a Solemn Recfuiem Mass tor the repose of the soml of the deceased was celebrated in St. Joseph's Cathedral, Rev. Father Cleary being eel eblrant, Rev. Falher Coiffey, Adm., deacon, and Rev. Father O'Mallev siibdoacon. The solemn music of the Mass wias rendered by tho choir of tbe Dominican nuns. Tha iivrp-rimolnt, which was private, took place in the Norfcherm Cemetery, where the Rev. Father CoifSey} officiated.—R.l. P.
