Waimate

(From our own correspondent.)

August 21. The Waimale Brass Band, under the conductor ship of Mr. C. J. Goldstone (the popular choirmaster of St. Patrick's church), is busy rehearsing for the Temuka contest, at which it will compete.

The Friendly Societies' card tournament was brought to a close last week, when the Hibernians met and defeated the Foresters by seven games. The tournament was won by the Oddfellows, the H.A.C. B. Society being second. The members of the Altar, Literary, and Hibernian Societies entertained the Re\ . Father Regnault at a social gathering on Monday evening. During evening the Rev. Father O'Conner, on behalf of the societies, presented Rev. Father Regnault with an easy chair and travelling bag. The Rev. Father Regnault, in returning thamks, gave his hearers an interesting account of a trip through the Otira Gorge in a snowstorm. ii T l ■]&* l"!]ll
