St. Joseph's Catholic School, Lyttelton (writes a correspondent), was examined on July 19 by Mr. Foster, M.A. The following is the report as sent in to Rev. Father Cooney (manager) : — Oragnisation, satisfactory ; reading, good ; composition, well taught, a wide choice of subjects in upper classes ; spelling, good ; recitation, a good selection of poems well known ; arithmetic, a saKasiaottory average of proficiency attained ; drawing, good , singing, a pleasing selection of songs well rendered ; physical instruction, suitable extension exercises ; geography, satisfactory Knowledge of a good syllabus in courses A and B ; history, a programme of moderate length well known ; moral instruction, religious exercises daily ; nature study and elementary science, profitable use made of nature study in New Zealand ; handwork, plasticine modelling with boys j needlework, well taught ; instruction of Class P, two upper classes tested, progress satisfactory ; order discipline, and tone of school, good ; efficiency of the school, very satisfactory.
