THE ADDINGTON MARKET.
There was a large attcn'danoe at AddLngtio-n, consisting ohicily of farmers, who are in town for the wool sales. Wit.li a small entry of fat siieep, these and lambs had a splinted sale. Beef and pork were in heavy slulpiply,, and prices weie lower.
Fat Cattle.— l-he large yarding of 20,4 head was in excess of requirements, and prices were on the average 2)0/- a head befow those of t!he previous week, while the last tew pens were passed without a ,bid, the best beef making 23/- to 24/6, and secondary and cows 20/- per HKHb ; Steers sioLd at £8/2/6 to •-£! 1/2/6 ; 28 North Island steers and bullocks at £(8/5/- t,o £11/2/6 ; other steer.s, £6/15/- to £10/17/6 ; cows, £5/17/6 to £7/15/-f Fat Calves.— There was a large en-try, aoi'd prices fell qomsudeuably, good butchers' vealers selling at 20/- to 30/-, and t<lie Bull r,aAge of prices being from 4/6 to 111/-.
Store Cattle.— The supply was large and comprised a gjopid proportion of grown cattle, rriiOSit pf which were l.ncliuideid m a line of about 200 from K'aikoura, not qon.spiciu,riu.s tor breeding. Business was rather better than lately, a tair proportion being sold at the iollowing prices : Calves, 20/- ; 15 tio 18-montih cattle, £2/13/6 to £3/5/- , two-year-old steers, £4/2/- tio £4/10/- /Heifers, £4 , three-ye ar-old stee s, £6 to £6/17/6 ; heifers, £5 to £5/10/- ; dry cows, 30/- to £4/5/-.
Dairy Cows — A poor selection and a limited demand, the highest price being £7.
Fat Sheep. — The entry was agam small, tftougih larger tihan last week, it consisted c-hiefiy of shorn ewes of a wide range of q.uality. The sale was very irregular, .opening quietly, not advancing; to last week's high valuers, and, alter further fluctuations, closi/ng at a slight decline. Butchers commarsded the market throughout. Prnes ranged— Crossbred wethers (extra), 30/- ; .prime, 22/- to 2-3/9 ; others, 19/10 to 21/9 ; ewes, prime heavy, 22/- to 25/9 ; medium to fcoojd, 18/- to 21/9 ;( others, 15-/6 to 17/7 ; merfno wethers', 12/2 tio 15/4. Fat Lambs.— There was a Eair entry, and all good sorts met a spirited demand at previous prices, but unfinished lots, of which many were penned, were .iin less request. best lines made 17/6 to 20/- ; otjher 14/6 to 17/6. Pigs.— A large number of all descriptions caw« forward, 'lhe sale of fats opened badly, but improves as it went on, alt/hough the best rates were still lower tah^n those of last week. A line of porkers and baconera from Lincoln College made 3*o/- to 62/-.
