November 28. His Lordship the Bishop is expected to return to Christdwrch on Thursday next. In tihe Canterbury Hall on Wednesday evening next a memoTial conceit is to be tendered to the relatives of the late Mr. E. T. McNamara by numerous friends in recognition of the past services of one wJxo was e^er ready tia assist in every good cause. The Catholics* of the city are interesting tvhemiselvcs in the event, whibh ia a fairly good indication oi success. The Rev. Father James Carroll, of Colliugwood, Melbourne, at present on a visit to this city, celebrated the half-past nine o'clock Mass in the Pro-Cathedral on Sunday, and at Vespers preaohed an earnest discourse on the significance of Advent. The Sisters of Naziareth left Liondan for Christchurch on last Monday, November 21,. by a Shaw, Savill, •and Albion Company's steamer.
At Rangiora on last Tlwrsday evening a presentation was made on behalf of members of the Catholic congregation to Mr. and Mrs. J. Power, of Ohoka, who are leaving the district to reside at Hawarden, by the Rev. Father Hyland, who said Mr. and Mrs. Power had been useful and esteemed mennbers of the congregation for mainy years, and sorrow was keenly felt at tlhek departure. ±\lr. Power replied in suitable terms.
