The Holy Father and Ireland
The IToly Fatdier has been pleased to address the following gracious letter to hi« Eminence Cardinal Logue ;— To Our Beloved Son., Michael Logiue, hy the title of S,t>. Mary of Pcaee, Cardinal Pnest of the Holy Roman Church, PIUS X., POPE. Our Beloved Son, Health and Apostolic Benediction. Although not many days since We ha.ye addressed to you a letter, in which We congratulated you on the defalcation of St. Patrick's Temple, which has been most happily celebrated, it pleasefh Us, however, to wfrite to you again for the purpose of giving more ampio expression to Our wisihes. For Our Venerable Br'otiher Vincent, Bishop of Palcstri'na, whom We sent to Ireland as Our Legate ' a latere, ' to preside in Our (name at, the aforesaid dedication, o n his return reliated so many and such signal things regarding the splendor of the celehjratioin,. the religion of the people, the kindness of yc>li and of Uie other Bishops, and your united devotedness to Us*, that his report filled Our mind with pleasure*. We, therefore, in the first place, give thanks £or the honor shown to the aforesaid Legate, which We regard as if it had "been bestowed upon Ourselves,
whoso person he represented. Then We likewise son-grat-ulate with you on that constancy and ardor of taitJi which Our .same Venerable Brother Vincenb saw manifested among you, by so many proofs, and admi.red sio much during his whole stay in yosu.r midst. For, not only did he \isit churches, at every stage of ilm progress 1 , and bestow, m Our name, a blessing on tho multitudes by which they Avcre so closely thronged, hint ho behold schools for the education of youth, hospitals for the solace of the sick, and dners associations demoted to ovciy kinl of religious and charitable wnrk^, tihus everywhere witnessing the active industry of tho ln^|h in promoting tho welfare of leligion. To your endeavors, Our Dearly Beloved Son, and to those of the other Bishops, we freely attribute the credit of this consoling state of things, desiring from Our heart that God may daily grant moire ample fruits to your efforts. Which that He may vouchsafe according to Oiir wishes, alild that you may he encouraged by the testimony of Our benevolence, We most lovingly, m the Lord, impart the Apostolic blessing to you, to tihe other Bishops,, and to the whole clergy and people in Ireland.
