ARCHDIOCESE OF WELLINQTON.

(From our own correspondent.)

April 25,

Reference was made in all the churches last Sunday to the great loss the Catholic community had sustained by the death of the Hon. Dr. Grace.

The weekly meeting of the Marist Brothers' Old Boys' Association was held at St. Patrick's Hall on Monday evening. Rev. Father Kirnbell occupied the chair. The reading of papers on the travels of members filled in a very pleasant evening. ' Britannia's Call to Arms ' has been the centre of attia.ction during the week, and the attendance each evening has been very large. On Friday evening Signor Borzoni was tendered a complimentary benefit. The carnival closes this evening, when the goods remaining will be put up to auction. It is with regret I have to record the death, the immediate cause of which was consumption, of Mr. J. Bourke, which took place at the hospital on Friday last. The deceased was an ex-pupil of St. Patrick's College, and had been a prominent footballer and member of the Wellington Rowing Club. His funeral took place on Sunday last and was largely attended, the mombei s of the Melrose Football Club and the Wellington Rowing Club acting as pall-bearers. The Rev. Fathers Kunboll and Moloney officiated at the graveside. — R T.P.

A meeting was held at the Convent School, Nowto^n, last Sunday afternoon to discuss the advisability of establishing a branch of the Hibernian Society. The Rev. Father Ainsworth occupied the chair, and in opening tRe meeting said it would gi\e him great pleasiue to see a branch established in his parish. Brother Callaghan, P.P of the Wellington branch, was present and explained the working of the society and the benefits to be derived by its members. It was unanimously resolved that a branch of the H;.|A.C.B S. be formed at Newtown. The necessary application will be signed and forwarded to the district executive in Auckland, find it is hoped the opening will take place some time in May.
