DUNEDIN HORSE SALEYARDS.
Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows :—: — There was a dearth of horses of all classes at this week's sale, only some 12 or 14 being entered altogether. There were a good number of buyers about, both for draught and light harness horses, and we had no difficulty in placing most of the entries, although none of the horseswere of first quality. In draughts we effected sales asi follows : — One five-year old gelding at £43, one six-year-old gelding at £40, and two aged horses at £30 and £27 each respectively. Of light horses we sold five at from £8 so £15. There is an improved demand for good young draughts, both for town and country work, and really useful upstanding light harness horses, suitable for springvans, tradesmen's delivery carts, the trams, and for buggy and dog carts are very scarce, and command ready sale at quotations. We quote : Superior young draught geldings, £42 to £48 ; extra, good, prize horses, £50 to £55 ; medium draught mares and geldings, £30 to £40 ; aged do, £18 to £25 ; upstanding carriage horses, £25 to £35 ; well-matched carriage pairs, £70 to £80 , strong spring-van horses, £28 to £35 ; milk-cart and
butchers' order-cart horses, £18 to £24 ; tram horses, £12 to £16 ; light hacks, £10 to £15; extra good hacks, £18 to £25 ; weedy and aged hacks and harness horses, £3 to £7r7 r
