The annual spiritual retreat for ladies at the Convent of the Sacred Heart, Titnaru, will begin on the evening of January 7 and end on January 12. The retreat will be preached by the Rev. Father Kelly, S.J. At the preliminary gymnastic competition held on Monday evening in the Christian Brothers' Gymasium the following pupils qualified to compete in the final contest which takes place at the break up on Friday evening in St. Joseph's Hall : — Junior : John Ryan, A. Dean. Erie Spain, R. MoClue, W. O'Connell, E. Kiely A. Byrne, E. C. Thomas. Senior : C. J. Collins, J. O'Sullivan, H. Hungerford, 11. McGregor, O. Swanson, J. Swanson, G. Metcalfe, James Collins. A lurge number of members attended the quarterly meeting of the Dunedin Branch of the Hibernian Society, when a considerable amount of important bußiness was transacted. Marlon- and J O'Connor were elected delegates to the district annual meeting to be tit Id. iv Dunedin in February next, and a strong coiumittee was appointed to arrange the necessary details for the suitable reception of visiting delegates.
