The Grainbrokers' Association report : — The oat market firmer, with good inquiry, but holders generally are asking prices slightly above buyers' values. Business would be practically about 2« 2£d for B grade, but merchants are reluctant to sell at less than 2s 3d to 2b 3£d ; C grade, Jd less. Trade is thus restricted, but stocks in store are so light that shippers can afford to adopt an independent attitude for a few weeks, especially as the harvest is likely to be late. Invercargill prices current : — Wholesale : Butter, fresh, 7d, factory, lid ; eggs. lOd per doz ; cheese, farm, 3£d ; bacon, farm, 7d ; do (rolled"), farm, 6d ; hams, 8d ; potatoes, 4s per cwt ; barley, 2s to 2s 6d ; fowl wheat, 2s ; chaff, L 2 10s ; flour, L 7 10s ; oatmeal, L 9 to LlO ; pollard, L 3 ; bran, L 2 10a, including bags. Retail — Fresh butter, 9d, factory, 1h ; eggs, Is per doz ; cheese, 6d ; bacon, rolled, Bd, sliced, 9d ; hams, lOd ; potatoes, 16lbs for Is ; flour, 2001 b, 16s ; 501 b, 4s 3d ; oatmeal, solb, 5s ; 251 b, 2s 9d ; pollard, 5s 9d per bag ; bran, 3b 6d per bag ; chaff, L 3 per ton ; fowls' feed, 2s 3d per bushel.
Messrs. Stronach Bros, and Morris report as follows :—: — Wheat. — Market unchanged. Prime milling velvet and Tuscan, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; medium, 2a 3d to 2s 4d ; fowl wheat, Is !>ii to 28 2d per bushel (sacks in). Oats. — Market firm. Prime milling, 2a Id; good to best feed, 2s to 2s OJd ; medium, Is 10£ dto Is ll£d ; inferior, Is 9d to Is 101 per bushel (sacks extra). Chaff. — Market over-Bupplied. Prime oaten sheaf, L 2 17s 6d to L 3 ; medium, L 2 10s to L 2 IF-s per ton (bags extra). Potatoes. — Best kidneys, L 2 10a per ton (bags in).
