Dunedin Horse Saleyards.

Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co. report as follows :—: —

Close upon 100 horses of one sort and another came forward for this week's sale, and we are pleased to add that there was a splendid attendance of the public, the proportion of buyers being much

above the average. The entries included consignments from New South Wales, Rangiora (North Canterbury), the Waitaki, Dipton (southland), Owaka, Milton, and elsewhere. The draughts from Dipton were a very serviceable lot of farm horses, young and apparently sound. They realised from L3sto L 41 — the latter price for a good five-year-old gelding by Herd La<ldie. Those from Sydney were mostly of medium size and weight, but nevertheless they sold well, realising from LI 7 10s to L 27. The Rangiora con--ignment comprised a fine lot of farm hordes, some 15 in number, and all of tht m changed hands at from L 25 to L4O. The light horses were mostly from the Waitaki district, and included a number of cood remounts, suitable for South Africa, and a number ut these were picked up by the Horse Selection Committee of the Ofa^o nnd Southland contingent at prices ranging from Ll6 to L 22. Many others were purchased for use locally. Although at the opening of sale bids came slowly, competition increased as it progressed, and a very satisfactory day's business was done. The Btate of thiß market is very healthy, and if those having useful young horses for sale, whether draught or light harness sorts, will send them forward at once they will have no grounds for disappointment with the results afterwards. We quote as follows : — Superior young draught geldings, L4O to L 45 ; extra good prize horses, L 46 to LSO ; medium draught mares and geldings, L3O to L3B ; aged do, L2O to L 27 ; upstanding carriage horses, L 25 to L3O ; well-matched carriage pairs, LSO to L6O ; strong spring van horses, L 22 to L2B ; milk cart and butchers' order cart horses, LI 5 to L2O ; tram horses, L 8 to Ll2 ; light hacks, Lt> to LlO ; extra good do, LI 5 to L 25 ; weedy and aged hacks and harness horses, L 2 to L 5.
