ASSIGNMENT IN WALES

HE Wellington conductor Stanley Oliver (above) has been invited to sit on the panel of judges at the 12th International Eisteddfod to be held at Llangollen in Wales next year. "I believe that Wales becomes quite a different country for the Eisteddfod," Mr Oliver told The Listener, "and I’m sure it will be a very interesting experience. I will be on ‘the panel of judges for the international choral competitions. As a rule about 20 countries are represented with choirs and folk dancing groups, and an average of 1000 competitors from overseas." It was the international friendship that such a festival promoted that he found important and interesting, added Mr Oliver. He considered its founder, Gwyn Williams, a man of great vision.
