CRUMBS AND STONES

Sir,-The correspondence page maintains its remarkable dullness, and appears to be the preserve of a few who go on almost interminably riding their hobby horses to death. Unfortunately, the often waspish editorial rejoinders to those daring to be critical will no doubt choke off those who could have something of general interest to say. This week I noted a letter captioned "Crumbs and Stones," but found the bulk of the letter strong approval of articles published, with one sentence criticising the "Aunt Daisy" serial. One can only won-

der what lies behind a caption so obviously one-sided if not malicious. Perhaps overwork?
