Colour Rubs Off
Dear Aunt Daisy, I recently bought a frock, ready made, of the material enclosed. After wearing it for‘a day I noticed that on the wrong side of the material all the red colour was rubbing off on to my undergarments. Also, where the material has been stained with perspiration the red has run badly, I am therefore afraid to wash the frock in case all the red should come out. I thought perhaps you could suggest some method of fixing the colours? I had heard of putting Salt or vinegar in water and soaking the. material for some time in it before washing. "Interested Reader,’ Timaru. Here is the only recipe i have for preventing colours from running. It. would be a good idea to prevent perspiration by using one of the remedies
from a chemist. Grate 2 medium potatoes as finely as possible. Add ‘2 cup vinegar and '% 4 salt, Stand for 10 minutes and add gallon water. Soak articles in this for 20 minutes washing as usual.
