That Strain Again
FEEL a certain grudge that I should so readily fall a victim to anything labelled Appointment with Fear, but the bones seem older than the brain, and I find my marrow liquefying long before previous experience of being led up the garden path has time to point out to me the last laboriously-gained wrinkle. I can’t even remember the name of last week’s thriller, but it was set in a palatial villa on the Isle of Capri, let at a ridiculous rent to a honeymoon couple because the bride of the previous tenant (bearing a striking resemblance to the current bride) has vanished from. the balcony in sinister and inexplicable circumstances. Needless to say, this one does too, in spite of Having Been Warned. For that matter previous Appointments with Fear should have done as much for me, but all the same I spent half-an-hour rooted to the spot, while the jam burned merrily in the kitchen. *
