Quilted Pram Covers
Dear Aunt Daisy, This letter is to tell you of an experience I had with my cream crepe-de-chene quilted pram cover. Like many other mothers I washed the cover and dried it very carefully between two towels ‘in a shady spot. But alas, up came the yellow spots in the middle of each diamond, such as you have been speaking of lately. I was very upset naturally when I discovered this, so, not wanting to experiment and maybe ruin my cover, I rang our very helpful Home Science School and here is their tested and tried remedy: Buy from the chemist four tablespoons (2o0z.) of sodium per borate, add this to one pint of soapy water, then soak the article in this solution for half an hour. I did it in my sink as it is big and I managed to get the cover well into the water. Take out and rinse well and press as dry as possible with towels and dry carefully. I think this is quite easy for anyone to do, and not expensive-the sodium costing 10d or lid per ounce. It will also remove sunburn on covers, as a friend of mine has
proved.
