Who Listens to What?

i WE should be grateful to our programme organisers not only for providing us with reasonably good listening but also for providing it at suitable times. The Morning Talks, for example, come at a time when the efficient housewife feels justified in sitting down and surveying her field of accomplishment. But what of the inefficient housewife whose need is the greater? Similarly the evening talks, in a well-managed household, happen when-~dinner is over and the beautiful silence of an adult. evening has just begun. But the incompetent parent probably misses out on Monday night’s "What is Personality?" because he’s still arguing about bedtime and Friday night’s The Family because the children make. him listen to the Quiz Kids. (Most parents I know like to listen to 2ZB’s Citizens’ Forum but complain that 6.0 p.m. is far too early--they are apt to miss the thread | of the argument while mopping up spilt milk at the family tea-table). Topics of interest to women are aired in the daytime and those of more general interest at night, but there must be a large proportion of retired gentlemen who have taken the entire A.C.E. course on Infant Welfare. And I like to think of our five-year-olds trotting home very fast on Mondays so as not to miss the next exciting episode of Rookery Nook.
