STATE COAL-MINES ACCOUNT

(a) £49,400 provided on main estimates. Additional sum required to cover salaries of staff attached to Wairaki and Mossbank Collieries and extra staff required to cope with increased activities. (b) £1,000 provided on main estimates not sufficient to cover present commitments. (e) Progress payment only in respect of colliery purchased October, 1944 ; final figure still being negotiated. (d) Necessary to give access to new area of Stockton Mine. (e) £325,000 provided on main estimates. Additional sum required to cover purchase of electric shovel, and expenditure in connection with Wangaloa Opencast Mine. (/) Officer overcome by gas whilst carrying out an inspection of the mine and died oight days later. (g) £1,000 provided on main estimates. Additional sum required to enable continuation of service transporting employees to Tatu Mine. (h) £1,750 provided on main estimates. Additional sum needed to cover legal foes in connection with mine purchase. (i) £2,500 provided on main estimates not sufficient to cover additional hours required to be worked owing to staff shortage. (j) £2,000 provided on main estimates. Additional sum required to cover cost of extensive boring near Dunollie.
