No. 60. —Petition of M, Matich of Pouto. Praying that effect be given to the report and recommendation of the Native Affairs Committee of 1939 on his petition praying for payment for goods supplied to the Native workers engaged on the Pouto Development Scheme. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 4th December, 1940.

Kua whakahaua ahau kia ripoata kite whakaaro o te Komiti ko tenei pitihana me tuku kite Kawanatanga kia whiriwhiria paitia. 4 o Tihema, 1940.

No. 48/1939.—Petition of Hamahona Pohatu and 115 Others, of Muriwai. Praying that the lands of the Ngati Tamanuhiri—namely, Te Kuri, Tongotete, Pakowhai, and other blocks—be removed from the control of the East Coast Native Trust Lands Commissioner. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for urgent inquiry into the position of the East Coast Native Trust Lands and the desire of the beneficial owners to have portions of their lands released from the Trust. 4th December, 1940. j. Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Native Affairs Committee unanimously passed the following resolution : " That this Committee place on record its high appreciation of the capable and courteous manner in which the Chairman, Mr. O'Brien, has conducted the affairs of the Committee during the session, and that this resolution be reported to the House." 4th December, 1940. That this Committee place on record its entire satisfaction with the manner in which the Clerk, Mr E M. Anderson, has carried out his duties during the session, and that this resolution be reported to the House. 4th December, 1940.
