ORDERS OF REFERENCE.

Extracts from the Journals of the House, of Representatives. Thursday, the 11th Day of July, 1940. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting, by leave, of sixteen members, to consider all petitions reports, returns, and other documents relating to affairs especially affecting the Native race that may be referred to it, and from time to time to report thereon to this House ; the Committee to consist of Mr. Broadfoot, the Kight Hon. Mr. Coates, Mr. Cullen, Mr. Frost, Mr. Kidd, Mr. Lowry, Mr. Massey, Mr. Moncur, the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Paikea, Mr. Ratana, Mr. Thorn, Mr. Tirikatene, Mr. Williams, and the Mover."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fbaseb, for Hon. Mr. Langstonb.) Ordered, " That during the present session all Select Committees appointed by the House have leave to sit on days on which the House is not sitting, provided that when it is proposed to sit on any such day at least three days' notice shall be given to each member of the Committee of the date of the sitting."—(Right Hon. Mr. Fraser.) Ordered, "That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1939 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session." —(Right Hon. Mr. Frasek.) Monday, the 22nd Day or July, 1940. Memorandum for the Chairman, Native Affairs Committee :— " Pursuant to section 23 of the Native Purposes Act, 1938, Paper No. 91 (Report and Recommendation on Petition No. 43 of 1937, of Henare Matanuku and others, of Rangituika, praying for a readjustment and redistribution of shares in Maraehara Block) stands referred to the Native Affairs Committee." Tuesday, the 30th Day of July, 1940. Memoranda for the Chairman, Native Affairs Committee :— "Pursuant to section 16 of the Native Purposes Act, 1937, Paper No. 133 (Report and Recommendation on Petition No. 204 of 1936, of Hirini Whaanga Christy and others, re sale of the Nuhaka Block) stands referred to the Native Affairs Committee." " Pursuant to section 16 of the Native Purposes Act, 1937, Paper No. 134 (Report and Recommendation on Petition No. 82 of 1936, of Hirini Whaanga Christy and others, re sale of the Mahia Block) stands referred to the Native Affairs Committee." " Pursuant to section 16 of the Native Purposes Act, 1937, Paper No. 135 (Report and Recommendation on Petition No. 239 of 1936, of Manaaki Piripi and others, re return of Mangaopuraka Block) stands referred to the Native Affairs Committee." " Pursuant to section 22 of the Native Purposes Act, 1935, Paper No. 136 (Report and Recommendation on Petition No. 23,0f 1931, of Rihitoto Mataia and others, re the goldfiekls revenue in respect of gold-mining rights over Native lands within, the district.extending from Moehau (Cape Colville) to the Aroha mountain ; Petition No. 347 of 1934-35, of Rihitota Mataia and others, relative to the purchase or acquisition by the Crown of the Ohinemuri Block and other lands within the Ohinemuri and Hauraki Districts which were subject to certain agreements dated the 19th day of December, 1868, and the 18th day of February, 1875, and to the purchases and payments referred to in the said petition; and Petition No. 196 of 1935, of Hoani te Anini and others, with regard to the mining rights in respect of Native lands within the Coromandel and Hauraki Districts and the payment of goldfields revenue arising therefrom) stands referred to the Native Affairs Committee." Friday, the 23rd Day of August, 1940. Memorandum for the Chairman, Native A ffairs Committee :— " Pursuant to section 23 of the Native Purposes Act, 1938, Paper No. 156 (Report and Recommendation on Petition No. 88 of 1937, of Hori Kaiwai, praying for relief in respect of an area of 37 perches in Manutahi A 7a Block) has been referred to the Native Affnirs Committee."
