In addition to these successes, 2 passed for Diploma of Honours, 3,973 candidates passed sections of the examinations for degrees or for admission to professions; 228 gained certificates of proficiency. There were 280 candidates (including bursary candidates) for the Entrance Scholarship Examination, 32 gaining scholarships, 98* others passing the examination with credit, and 65 qualifying for matriculation. The number of candidates for the University Entrance Examination was 4,774, of whom 2,342 passed the examination.
