No. 181. —Petition of the Education Board of the District of Otago, Dunedin. Praying that the Dunedin Training College be not closed, and that the four training colleges be retained I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee there should be greater co-ordination of that part of our educational organization which relates to the training of teachers so as to avoid as far as possible the duplication of staffs and courses which result in unnecessary expenditure. To this end the Committee is of opinion that there should be closer co-operation between the Education Department, the Education Boards, and the University Colleges, and directs for favourable consideration of the Government the recommendations of the Parliamentary Recess Committee on Education on page 85 of parliamentary paper 1.-Ba, 1930. Bth December, 1932.
