Praying for compensation in respect of permanent injuries caused by alleged neglect while under detention by police and prison authorities. No. 5. —Petition of Alexander Hanna, of Te Mawhai. Praying for refund of conveyance duty. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 7th December, 1932.
No. 495, Sess. 1, 1932. —Petition of F. C. Knott, and 16 Others. Praying for reasonable compensation for alleged loss and damage arising out of the recent rioting in Auckland. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. The Committee also recommends that the Government introduce suitable legislation, on the lines of that existing in other countries, to meet cases such as the present; and that some provision be made therein to deal with cases of proved hardship of those persons who sustained damage in the riot referred to by the petitioners. 14th February, 1933.
