Kirk and 4 Others, of Wellington ; No. 364, Petition of James Burnett, of Wellington ; No. 370, Petition of T. B. Williams and 10 Others, of Wanganui. Praying that the Government should contribute financially towards the upkeep of the Cawthron Institute. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, conditionally upon the trustees of tho Cawthron Institute extending its operation by the additional expenditure of not less than £2,000 per annum in scientific investigations of essentially national importance. 12th October, 1922.

Praying that the road from Mossburn to Manapouri and Te Anau be made and repaired, in order that settlers and others may be able to avail themselves of it.
