My Lord,— Wellington, 7th August, 1917. I have the honour to forward to Your Excellency the enclosed resolutions passed by the House of Representatives with reference to the present war. To His Excellency the Right Honourable Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Member of His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Member of the Royal Victorian Order, Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies. May it please Your Excellency,— We, His Majesty's dutiful and loyal subjects the House of Representatives of New Zealand in Parliament assembled, desire respectfully to inform Your Excellency that we have this day passed the following resolution, which we respectfully request Your Excellency to forward to His Majesty's Secretary of State for the Colonies, for submission to His Majesty the King: — Resolved, That on the occasion of the third anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, the House of Representatives of New Zealand, in Parliament assembled, records its inflexible determination to continue to a victorious end the struggle in maintenance of those ideals of liberty and justice which arc the common and sacred cause of the Allies. The Governor-General acknowledges, with gratification, the receipt of a copy of the resolution passed by the House of Representatives on the occasion of the third anniversary of the declaration of war. It will afford His Excellency great pleasure to convey the terms of the resolution to His Most Gracious Majesty the King. The Governor-General desires also to express his appreciative acknowledgment of (lie resolution recording the thanks of Parliament for the services rendered to the Empire and to the Dominion of New Zealand alike by all raliks of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, Miscellaneous, of the 26th July, forwarding dormant commission, dated the 23rd July, 1917, passed under the Royal Sign-manual and Signet, appointing the Chief Justice or the senior Judge for the time being of the Supreme Court of New Zealand to administer the Government of this Dominion in the event of the death, incapacity, or absence of the Governor-General. 2.
